I was disheartened this weekend when I opened the local newspaper to find out an organic food store I just recently visited in Brewster, NY was
abruptly closing its doors.
Organic Connection had such high standards. You never had to read a label on any product they sold - a nice change of pace for folks like me concerned with ingredients. They sold lots of local items: produce, milk, bread and more. I hate to see small, high quality places have the close their doors. And yes I admit I'm often a slacker and run to whatever store is closest, but this article got me thinking that if I'm serious about eating local, organic, and sustainable maybe I need to support more local businesses trying to do the same thing.
