What if "Out of the Box" Is Just Finding What Fell Through the Cracks?

It’s so frustrating to see so many stories about people feeling hopeless, homes being lost, and buildings being vandalized.  The media, the people, and even the government calling for ways to make things better, and yet we sit. Here we have an idea that can light a candle for many people, locally and nationally, but it’s not “out of the box enough,” and too small scale for others to consider.

New Home, Next Step

North Country Sustainability Center, Inc. just agreed to lease a retired elementary school in Ashburnham, MA as our temporary home base. This will allow us to start offering programs, make local food and art pieces available for sale, and build the long term goal of creating a very exciting project.

What does NCSC do for anyone else?  Well, to start with, we're a regional operation, so we are open to working with and helping anyone who has a dream to start a small business that…

Are Dreams Dead? I Hope Not!

With the news all full of frustration and anger, is it possible that a dream can still come true?

I hope so, because we have a unique chance to make it happen. But it will take a little help from a lot of people.

Since I started in the field of local food and environmental education I had an image of  reusing an old building to create a place where farms could sell their food, consumers could purchase high quality locally grown food and a community could come…

North Country Sustainability Center

Central MA residents are working developing a new sustainability center. Farmers market, exposition space, commercial kitchen, creamery, arts center, lots more. Check out www.northcountrysustain.org and see some of what we're working. But we need help to make it happen. Look through the site and give us some feedback, spread the word to help make this a reality.

Reflections on TEDxCambridge 2010 "How do you eat?"

I attended the TEDxCambridge event "How do you eat?" over the weekend. I thougght my observatoins would be of interest to the NEFOOD crew.

"I've been stewing on TEDxCambridge for about 24 hours so I figured it's time to put into writing what's been swirling around my head all day. I applied to attend because the topic was of interest to me, "How do you eat?" and I was curious about the whole…
