yes, it is indeed sad the "partner in Ending Hunger" has come to an end. Or is it a possibility of a new beginning. My wife Sheila and I met with Diane H a number of months ago.
In addition to the gardening we are doing here in Wiscasset I am also writing a book about the development of the Food Security Partners of Middle Tennessee and that will keep me involved until next year.
I like you am interested in doing some food security stuff here in Maine but my time will be limited until next year.
It seems to me we might want to look at the possibility of a food security policy council here in Maine. the best way would be to have it driven by interested parties in the Augusta area.
I thought that returning to Maine was going to put me in the middle of food security heaven, but I guess not.
Anyway, lets stay in touch and perhaps we can be helpful in some way.
Peace,
Del K
I haven't gotten my project going yet; it is still in the incubation stage. I hope to work with a middle school somewhere near me, but haven't even gotten to that decision yet. Providing future farmers is a benefit of school gardens which I hadn't even thought of! Exposure to gardening and the outdoors/nature was my first goal, and learning about healthy food was my second. But I'm sure there are other benefits, too. I'm glad your daughter is reaching for an agricultural future. Kat
relax and network.
The farmers market was a real success. It was very busy and confirms that a farmers market benefits by holding activities to attract people to our market. We orginally started the festival on the same day as Art in the Park to attract people and it has worked.
It is through the farmers market that my husband and I have been able to build a customer base. We are lucky to have a market that is busy and with vendors that all get along.
Thank you for writing--you will definitely be hearing more about Port Clyde Fresh Catch through this site, I'm so glad to be able to share wonderful news about local foods! Have a nice day!
It's Stacy Gambrel. Hope you guys are doing well! What have you been up to lately? I'm finishing up my Masters in Public Administration and starting to look for jobs (preferably that pay a living wage!) We've been spending tons of time in the garden and doing lots of biking....fun stuff! Sean says hi!
