20 years ago, I started Purple Dragon Co-op, a multi-farm based buying club that organizes neighborhood groups of families to receive bi-weekly mixed organic and alternative produce boxes, insofar as possible from small, regional farms. We are members of Co-op America, Northwest Coalition for Alternatives to Pesticides (NCAP,) the Organic Trade Association and NOFA-NJ. We now also offer our members a large variety of natural and regional foods, natural pest control products, water filters, juicers, apple peelers, vitamins, organic and non-irradiated herbs and spices and more. Also, with organic farmer David Size, I started Blue Earth Local Natural Foods, which produces products from local surfeit to help farmers sell off their #2 or extra items and to offer products made from regional ingredients. So far, we have made an organic heirloom tomato garlic catsup, organic salsa, organic tomato sauce, IPM peach-mint and nectarine butters.
