Hi Poppy,

We are working on a farmer e-newsletter focused on strengthening their business... but as the Ag Census points out, only about 30% have internet access. Someone gave us the idea of using twitter and sending information to farmers via their cell phones... thanks for your email! Jen

I've been exploring twitter for a few months and finally have a decent group of aggies. I am also following a number of journalists and new media commentators. It has become a valuable tool for me. It directs me to interesting breaking news and keeps me in touch with a current conversation about how to use media. Mainstream ag groups (Co. Farm Bureau) ag press (Brownfield) and Monsanto are all using twitter. Is there some way to add a twitter link to this web site to make it easier for users here to follow each other on twitter? I came to the site today because of an e-mail about the new Farm Bill information. That announcement is a perfect example of something that would work well on twitter to bring new people to this site and to develop and expand the conversation and ag community on twitter. My twitter user name is PoppyDavis.

Greetings from Vermont. My current work at the UVM Center for Rural Studies and the Intervale Center in Burlington includes producing newsletters and other outreach materials for the two organizations. My background is in community journalism and I am very interested in the connections between rural communities and their local news sources and the potential of new media to strengthen people's awareness of local food and agricultural issues.

Greeting from Oregon. OK, I'm not in the Northeast, but I did live and work in Vermont some years back. I am working with a national group, eOrganic. We have our own website that we use for collaborative writing of web articles (like a wiki) that will be published on eXtension at the end of 2008. Our website at http://eorganic.info is currently not open to the public. Part of our mission is to increase the communication among people involved with organic agriculture research, including growers. We hope to have a public side of eorganic.info and hope to learn about online communities in the agriculture sector by joining this group.

Hello from Connecticut. I am the Product Donation Coordinator at Connecticut Food Bank (CFB). CFB is a private, nonprofit organization whose mission is to alleviate hunger. We strive to do this by supplying food products and resources to eligible agencies throughout our service areas, and by promoting public awareness about the problem of hunger. Founded in 1982, CFB is the largest centralized source of donated, emergency food in Connecticut.

Greetings from southern Cayuga County. I'm an enthusiastic foodie and write a monthly column, The Localvore, for my local newspaper which highlights farmers and food producers right here in my area.

I also head up a graphic design and branding firm that specializes in working with nonprofits—predominantly those involved with food, nutrition, agriculture and environment.

Hi folks-- i am working with Roger and Kathy at NESAWG to develop messages on the Farm Bill and the Priorities of the Northeast. Our goal is to help the public better understand the bill; the process of funding, rulemaking, and public involvement; and accessing the programs within the bill. As i start to work on this more i look forward to drawing on much of your expertise.

Hello. I produce and host a web show called The Natural Princess. It's all about getting people to seek out organic, natural and local food. I post the episodes on my website and on various video hosting sites like blip.tv, veoh.com, and dailymotion.com. My website is http://www.thenaturalprincess.com.

Hi, I am just finishing my first year of a Masters in Communications at Georgetown. I am interested in how the story of food and agriculture changes in different contexts: rural, urban, producer, eater, health advocate, industry advocate, legislator, bureaucrat.
