I'd be very interested to hear what people think can help the inefficiencies local/sustainable ag?
Below are some of the issues I'm working to solve with technology:
Supply Chain Management - freight route planing, warehouse scheduling, delivery/pickup timing. All in a cooperative platform that keeps everyone on equal footing, instead of traditional supply chains that use economy of scale for the profit of the top few.
Relationship Management - standard communications platform to deal with all of the obove, plus ordering, transactions, reconciliation, etc...
Aggregate Data - one stop shop for product, shipping, warehousing, processing, and delivery information that can be shared across multiple (technology) platforms.
Resource Planing - so the hospital and school system food services, grocery, restaurant, etc... can plan what they need and how they are going to get it. Will also eventually help farmers plan crops, and enable processors/food services to use more local/sustainable.
There are a lot of simple solutions out there - Market Maker, Red Tomato, AgMap, Farm Reach, etc.... many places a producer has to input into, but non talk to each other (standard messaging), not many handle transactions, none manage communications or reconciliation or planing, and none deal with the rest of the supply chain logistics that all need to talk to each other.
Please let me know your thoughts and what solutions you find. Thanks.
