Save the Date. Join CT NOFA to celebrate TASTE! 2010 on September 19th at Manchester Community College, Great Path Road, Manchester, CT from 10 am to 4pm.
Head Chef, John Turenne is busily sourcing the finest and freshest ingredients from Connecticut Farms to be on the menu at the NOFA Food Booth at TASTE. Our three local celebrity chefs are designing recipes that will showcase our local and organic food. Chef John Turenne, fresh from his recent TV stint with “The Naked Chef” Jamie Oliver, will be cooking and running the NOFA Food Booth show. Seen Lippert, who worked as a chef with Alice Water’s Chez Panisse for 11 years, will join John Turenne to create a tempting menu of Connecticut-grown foods. You can meet Seen and attend her free workshop, ”How to use the abundance of your summer garden”. New Haven’s own environmentally-focused celebrity chef Bun Lai, owner of Miya Sushi will also be on hand to give a free workshop. Bun’s restaurant was recently named one of the top-ten sustainable restaurants in America.
Young farmers and those that want to go in that career direction can meet and chat with the inspiring Severine von Tscharner Fleming, founder of The Greenhorns. There will also be screening of her newest documentary, “The Greenhorns.” giving a thoughtful look at our young American farmers’ deep commitment to the clean food movement.
All day there will be acoustic music by The Whiskey Boys, and local favorites Trainwreck Jerry and Deborah Simmons.
Shop this year’s mouth-watering harvest at our local Farmers’ and Vendors’ Market. Our children’s tent will do old-time crafts, enchant with storytellers, and invite all to join in games, pony rides and last year’s favorite - hoop dancing. Our lunch time entertainment will be an out-of-doors performance by ART FARM: Playful theater with an environmental theme.
Meet our VIP local farm animals; take an old-fashioned free hay ride behind a Bio-diesel tractor, marvel at a state of the art “chicken tractor”. Take a Market stroll with Bill Duesing, Executive Director of CT NOFA and meet your local farmers. Attend free workshops and educational garden tours.
Help support CT NOFA. The Northeast Organic Farming Association is the oldest local and organic farming organization in the state. Its over 800 members are farmers, gardeners, land care professionals and food lovers who would like to see more local and organic food in this state.
All this for a fee of $7 ($5 for NOFA members & MCC students and faculty). Children under 12 are FREE.
